Saralivarisai
Saralivarisai are the beginning exercises in Carnatic music. The following exercises are all sung in Mayamavalagowla.
I grew up learning the saralivarisai through rote memorization, then writing the swaras on a sheet of paper. After I learned the saralivarisai in Mayamavalagowla, I would then sing the exercises in the new raagas I had learned, since I already had the swaras and just needed to adjust the pitch.
Try listening to each audio and filling in the swaras on the saralivarisai sheet. Do your best!
Use a lowercase “s” for the lower-pitched Sa, and an uppercase “S” for the higher-pitched Sa. All swaras take up one beat and one space on the worksheet.
